5th Grade HW

Blog

I returned to teaching in the fall of 2008.  September 2012 will be the start of my 13th year in the classroom. I teach three sections of 5th grade science at a small coed independent school in central New Jersey. For the 2012-13 school year, I will also be teaching one section of 7th grade life science.

I was a stay-at-home mom for four years (2004-08) and I freelanced for BrainPOP.com for two years (2006-08).  Some of my activity pages are now posted online (Ants and Acids/Bases). On the BrainPOP website, each movie will eventually have an activity page, vocab list, and graphic organizer.

Prior to teaching 5th grade and being a stay-at-home mom, I taught science for 8 years, first as a public school teacher, then as a private school teacher.  This website is a collection of my lesson plans for teaching science for grades 5 to 7.

I originally created this web page as a resource for my students.  The idea was for them to have a place to check homework assignments, print out handouts at home, and visit safe links.  The kids loved it, I was the only teacher in my school that had a web page and it was just for them.  Since then, I have received email from all over the world, other teachers were using my page a resource for lesson plans.  What a compliment!

Since starting this site in September 1997, I have changed addresses quite a bit.  I finally decided to make a permanent home and register the domain name "middleschoolscience.com"  in 2000.  Middle school science is a delicate balance of trying to teach scientific concepts without being too "elementary" or too "high school".  I hope this web page can give you some ideas to use in your classroom.
